You prune them when anytime after they have finished flowering and the leaves have started to drop, but its easier if you wait till the plant starts to bud up again as you can see better where to cut back to. Ideally you would cut to an outside bud so when the rose begins to grow its shape is vase like, so that it allows good air flow that will reduce disease. Remove anything growing inwards.
You are doing this to promote good new growth for the spring, and it improves flowering. It helps also to dead head your plants for a longer flowering period( removing dead flowers)Reduce plant to about a 3rd of its size.

When is the best time to prune roses, spring, fall and why?
Well.. in the Spring (Actually, I prefer March)is the best time.. that is when I always prune mine... But exactly when depends on where you live.. thus, timing is determined by the class of the rose plant and the zone in which it is growing. Most rose pruning is done in the spring, with the blooming of the forsythia as a signal to get moving. If you don't have forsythia, watch for when the leaf buds begin to swell on your rose plants, meaning the bumps on the canes get larger and reddish in color.
Hybrid tea roses are the most particular about pruning. If you don't know what type of rose you have, watch the plant for a season. If it blooms on the new growth it sends out that growing season, prune while dormant or just about to break dormancy, as stated above. If it blooms early, on last year's canes, don't prune until after flowering.

Roses, why can't I just disolve those rose "pellets' for insect and disease control and spray on ?
I have good rose plant pellets that I am supposed to dig up the root area of the rose plant and dig these pellets into the ground, why can't I just put them in my hose end sprayer, let them disolve then hook up the hose and spray on, you can tell I am no scientist. I don't have the money to buy more stuff and i don't have the time to dig up the soils

I've been growing roses for 20 years and I have never come across rose pellets that are intended for insect and disease control. What is it called?

The drying process usually takes up to 2 weeks in general. There are two processes for drying flowers and herbs. * Keep in a warm dark place that has good air circulation

3 tablespoons water
1/2 cup superfine sugar
Directions

3Beat on low speed until blended, then beat on high speed 4-5 minutes or until fluffy.

Many States have programs to help homeowners pay for the cleanup of such sites. That's another reason to contact a lawyer. It could save you thousands of dollars and stress in the future.
Just what ever you do, don't wait. Do something as soon as you can.

How do u dry out roses properly?
Before your roses are opened all the way, take them out of the water. Tie them together with string and hang them upside down in a warm, dry dark place. A closet works well. Leave them there until they have completely dried (about 10 - 15 days). Once they are dry, spray them with hairspray to preserve the color.
Keep in mind that some roses do not dry well and will change color and not keep their original color (white roses don't dry well and turn beigy-yellow)

Reply:They are in need of good maintenance, pruning, fertilizing, aerating the soil, pest control. But the rewards are a yard full of beautiful buds and opening blooms making the air filled with perfume like fragrance.

Reply:I don't know where you are, but l live in the desert and roses are very easy to grow here. Regular water is all they need and a once a week good soak is all. They do need to be pruned, but if you get shrub roses they don't even need that unless they get in your way. We don't have any problems with disease or fungus in the desert. I never use pesticides because you want a few aphids to feed the ladybugs that will keep all the bad bugs away. Hybrid tea roses have some great fragrance, but I try to plant mostly miniature or shrub roses since they need practically no care. I have added a link to a great place of ordering roses online. I've had wonderful luck with their roses.

Reply:The area needs to have good drainage, lotsa sunlight for most of the day, lotsa fertilizer, lotsa weeding/feeding. Depending on your current locationor growing zone, the subzero roses are the best! Depends also, if you want schrubs, tea roses(single roses), floribunda(many blooms), fish heads are a great way to fertilize roses.

Also, there are a few different types of roses, some are hardier than others (weather, disease, etc). The only problem I have with growing roses is that deer LOVE them. I live in a rural area and deer eat everything here, but if you're not out in the country, you shouldn't have too many problems once you decide what roses are right for your area.

I have chopped it down, and mowed it down, I have used to weed eater to cut it straight down to the dirt and it wont die. I have even tried dumping cooking grease on it and it don't hurt it. So if you can get it started I would say they would be pretty easy to maintain.

I see roses as the gentle southern lady who puts the back of her hand on her forehead and swoons. They need perfect conditions to be perfectly healthy. You have to watch them for mildew, aphids, black spots. They need sunlight. You should feed them so they are optimally healthy. They need a lot of space, as they need the air around them to circulate well. Although we purchased hardy roses, they seem to need a lot of attention to look really great.
They're beautiful and ours are very fragrant, but they aren't like some flowers and plants that you can basically ignore once you plant them.
Reply:i dont think so I use fish guts and bones and stuff around mine egg shells they love. I planted some of those bush ones this year and they look great. I plan on moving and so I will start over with more. good luck. I think roses are easy watch for beetles!! put seven on them if they come. hateful things. I usually buy lady bugs for them.

These roses are awesome. they bloom all year, they are decease resistant and bug proof. also try Nearly Wild, Martha Gonzalez, Old Blush or even Home run. These roses dont have to much of a fragrance but they bloom a lot!!! Mainly try not to water at night because thats when most roses are more prone to get a fungus. try to water early in the mornings. Roses like to be fertilize at least once a month but the ones mentioned above are pretty much carefree. hybrid roses are going to need more care than most. antiques are pretty hardy but the flowers are small. if you want check out Knockout Rose.Com Good Luck!!

Spray on a mixture of washing up liquid and water.

If you like birds, hang up a peanut feeder near the roses. The little birds (blue **** etc.) it will attract love aphids and are small enough to hang off your roses to eat them. Hoverflies and ladybirds should also be encouraged as suggested by others. Don't spray them or you won't get all the lovely creatures that eat them. Be patient.
Reply:25ml of olive oil to 1 litre of water kills aphids, spidermites washes off eggs brilliant concoction
Reply:A mixture of washing up liquid and water, leave for 24 hours and wipe off with a wet cloth.
Reply:Spray them.A weak solution of washing up liqiud or loads of insectides from a garden centre.
Reply:spray them with soapy water.....................cheap and easy...........also a clove of garlic placed at the roots of the rose will help keep them away

and don't use Neem oil for black spot or powdery mildew... just spray with a solution of Chamomile Tea that you have let cool down to room temp.... it's a natural fungicide.

You do need to make a deal with club management. Local laws will dictate what else is needed.
In my area, it required a floral license, which required coolers of a certain type, and a fee to the county for that license. It also required a tax number, which in Texas doubles as a business license.
One tip. I sent two people out together: one to sell roses, one to sell instant (polaroid) photos.
I know some outfits do quite well at this -- I never did. Tried it to help me get thru college, and I had a little trouble keeping it and my love life separate. I made very little money, but I did have a pretty good time.
