Ants on my roses! How do I get rid of them?

This spring for some strange reason Im seeing lots of ants inside my roses. They seem to be eating away at the closed buds too and later when flowers open they have all these holes! Whats attracting these ants to the roses and is there a safe and preferably organic solution to this problem?thanks in advance.

Ants on my roses! How do I get rid of them?
Ants don't usually go to a plant unless there is something else that is attracting them to it. You may want to give a good check for aphids. When they attact the plant they secrete a kind of sugar which then attracts the ants. If it is aphids, there are a variety of pesticides that can be purchased to correct the problem. Check with your local Garden Center for appropriate solutions to the problem.
Reply:spray them with dawn and beer mixed and especially the ground around it
Reply:If you have ants on your roses, it's a secondary problem. Ants cultivate the sugary substance that aphids secrete. It's not the ants that are eating your roses. Ants don't eat plants. If you have holes you might have any number of critters; aphids, earwhigs, sawfly larvae. If you want to be organic, then spray your roses with water every day. If not, spray any number of insecticides safe for roses. There are also "Safer" products that are not that harmful to humans, pets, that will kill insects.

Good luck.
