Are there any natural ways to get rid of green fly on roses?

if possible, something that will also stop them coming back.

Are there any natural ways to get rid of green fly on roses?
There are a few things you can try:

1. Soapy water sprayed onto the roses (don't use washing up detergent, use facial soap!)

2. Boil up some tobacco (or cigar/cigarette ends) in water for about 10 minutes, allow to cool and spray this on. Nicotine is one of the most effective insecticides known. Alternatively, make a cold infusion of garlic, onions or chives by mashing some plant material up with water and spraying this on- aphids HATE it.

3. Try companion planting: plant between your rose bushes marigolds, basil, rosemary, sage, catnip or other very pungent aromatic herb. It will help keep aphids away from the whole area.
Reply:Great information. Am off to try it. Thankyou. Report It
Reply:Get a insect eating plant?
Reply:Although it's probably difficult to do so, you could introduce Ladybird larvae onto the plant. They are aphid (greenfly)'s natural predator. The problem of course is getting Ladybird larvae AND getting them to stay there.

You could always just spray them with pesticides?
Reply:A soap solution is supposed to do the trick, but you have to keep repeating it.

If you've got enough green fly, ladybirds will probably eat some of them
Reply:The best way to get rid of aphids on your roses, from my experience, is a three part procedure.

First, fill a spraybottle with soapwater, and thoroughly spray your roses once a day each day for one week. That should kill all of the aphids on your plants. It wouldn't hurt to continue spraying your roses once a week, thereafter, just in case.

Next, plant garlic cloves with your roses, garlic repels aphids.

Third, start growing nasturtium flowers about ten feet away from your roses. Nasturtiums are so attractive to aphids, they can draw them (when in their flying stage, at least) away from other plants.

Hopefully, that will minimize the aphids on your roses.
Reply:Ladybirds eat them, but apart from that i'm not sure.

I use water in a squirty bottle with a little bit of washing up liquid in it. i know it's not natural but it sure works.
