How do i make my roses grow up straight.?

the roses are in the ground for a number of years now. they are spreading out slightly wild, and catch clothing when you pass.

How do i make my roses grow up straight.?
If they're crawling along the ground, that's the kind of roses they are (climbing variety). To make them grow upward, you need to trellis them.



When you prune them this winter (should actually have been done in December), cut most of the side branches away, such that there's only a coupla-three main branches. Set a trellis into the ground about 6 inches behind the plant (avoid running the stakes through the root ball). Then tie the branches up to the trellis with plant ties or jute twine (loose enough to allow for future branch growth).



In the future, trim back side growth and just let the plant climb up the trellis.
Reply:If the plant is a mounding rose it won't grow upright. Mounding roses do just that, they mound. They spread out and look slightly wild. Sounds like you might have a mounding rose :) Some people call them hedge roses.
