How do i grow roses in my yard?
Roses can be very touchy. The do like full sun. The best way to plant them is do dig a hole twice the size of the container. Roses love organic material so when planting place manure or michigan peat in the bottom of the hole place the plant and back fill with a very good soil mix. Make sure you mulch and keep the soil moist. Fertilize regularly, and dust with and insecdticide ( organic or not) on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule.

Hybrid teas, floribundas, and grandifloras need the most work, but english roses and shrubs roses are much easier to care for.
Reply:First question, where do you live???

Second, what kind of roses do you want to grow? T-roses? Floribunda? Climbing? Shrub? Wild? and there are other kinds too!

Third, some general info. Roses love the sun. They also tend to be somewhat susceptible to problems. I would start with just one or 2 plants so you can practice with them. You can type "rose problems" in google for a bunch of info. The link below is probably an MVP ...or look for other sites like it. The MOST important things are to 1) pick the right cultivar (pick one you like and that has good disease resistance), 2) pick the right spot for it (according to online information...good air flow, good soil drainage, etc.), and 3) make certain to follow the cultural guidelines outlined in the link below and on other sites...it will make a WORLD of difference!

Have fun!
Reply:Plant them, make sure they have enough sunlight and water.

Seriously...if you had to ask this, maybe don't plant them
Reply:How far north you live may determine which varieties of roses that will grow well for you. If you just want to experiment with growing roses, go to a local landscaping company that sells live plants (not a chain store that sells plants) and talk to the staff for their recommendations. I would stick to tea roses or shrub roses as climbers and ramblers can get out of hand once they are established (may take a few years). Climbers and ramblers should have a fence or trellis to climb on.

Roses love full sun, so look at where you wanted to plant them; does that spot get full sun most of the day? All morning or afternoon? Roses can make do with 5 or 6 hours of sun. Roses also need a lot of water and need good drainage. When you go to plant your rose, dig a hole 24" x 24", and only put manure in the bottom 6" of your hole.

I have purchased root stock roses from www.heirloomroses.com. Some of their varieties are bred to be winter hardy. I was very happy of the state of the plant once I received it and their planting instructions were good.

Good luck!
