I have small inch worm type worms on the leaves of my roses. They are curled up during the day.?

What could they be. They are eating them voraciously.

Not sure exactly what they are, but it seems you will want to get rid of them. They could simply be exactly what you called them, inch worms. Either way you will want to use a good systemic pesticide to get rid of them. If the leaves are already infested you will probably want to use a good garden pesticide on them just to knock them down, and then the systemic pesticide will keep them protected.

If you don't know, a systemic pesticide is one that is taken up through the roots and gets into the leaves killing the bugs that feed on them. Most pesticides only kill the bugs they come in contact with, or will only stay on leaves until it is washed off or dissipates.
Reply:sounds like a cut worm.

Immediately spray and then get a systematic going on the roots.

If your a naturalist better get the dishsoap going on them fast or you won't have those roses next year.
Reply:Just to supplement Don K.'s answer, without seeing the offending worm, it is difficult to recommend a remedy. And he is correct in suggesting a systemic treatment, However, the product is absorbed through the foliage, not the roots, and the active ingredient to look for is called Acephate. Orthene, made by Ortho, and available at Wal Mart, Lowes, etc, is a good homeowner systemic treatment for all sorts of insect troubles.

Systemic treatment protects the plant, as opposed to sprays that wash off with rainfall, as Don K. said.

Best wishes
