They are climbing roses, and the plants are very healthy but no roses! Help
My roses are not blooming, what am I doing wrong?
I assume they are getting enough sun? They need a lot of sun to bloom. If so, my only recommendation is to give them some "bone meal". (Bone Meal is high in phosphorous, which promotes blooms and root systems -- if I remember my gardening basics correctly... Nonetheless, it is "bone meal you want. It's all natural, too.)
One site (on "Vita-soil") has this to say about Bone Meal: "The effects phosphorous has on plants that can be easily observed by gardeners are in vitality, the time of blossoming and maturity. Flowers will produce more colorful blooms. A phosphorous deficiency may stunt growth and delay the emergence of new shoots and flower development."
Reply:THANKS! If you already use a fertilizer with a higher 1st #, stop using it a month before the flowering season, and apply bone meal or a fertilzer with a higher middle # (like "6-12-6"). A higher 1st # puts it's energy into growth/green, not flowers. Report It
Reply:Check if there are fruits developing from past blooms, if so, remove them with scissors and you'll get new blooms
Reply:IF, they have flowered previously this season, you may need to Dead Head them, this is cutting off the Flowers that starting to die. What happens; The flower dies which means it go to seed, if the plant think it done it's job (Producing Seed) it have no reason to make more flowers.
Also, try a Fertilizer for Roses it may help.
I live in Arkansas and my Roses have been blooming now a good 2 months. They usually bloom all summer if I keep them Dead Headed and watered. Sometimes I may have to Spray for Fungus.
Reply:Maybe underwatering or under feeding. Are you pruning the bushes? You have to do that.
Reply:You scared them off
Reply:its called daily water, plenty of sun, fertile soil, and, oh yes, IT'S 2 EARLY GENIUS!!! No offence. give them like a few more weeks or marbe a month
Reply:Fertilized them. This may prompt your plant to bloom
