How to taking care a roses?
To begin with, don't over water the rose. Not knowing the name, many roses change color as each flower dies back. It's a gradual but natural thing to happen. Don't have the soil too high on the stem. The rose came in a container (or was bare root?) and an obvious indication of where the soil should be once the rose is planted in the ground. Don't plant above that. The plant won't like it and you may end up with an entirely different rose that comes from beneath the graft. 99% of all roses at garden centers or catalog are grafted from different stock.
Roses are heavy feeders. However, don't over feed them. My preferred fertilizer is just Alfalfa Meal gotten at a feed store. Put down about 4" keeping it off the stem by about 5" and feathering it out to about 10". Remove all grass around it before planting.
So, don't plant too deep. Don't over water (drown it with kindness) and fertilizer with Alfalfa meal.
Reply:Roses are a hard plant to grow for people just learning to garden. I found out first hand. They don't like wet feet. In other words, if the roots are continuously wet, the leaves turn yellow.
You might want to re pot the plant. Make sure the pot has good drainage so that the water runs out of the bottom. You can put a rocks or empty plastic bottles in the bottom to help it drain. Before I knew about how to grow roses, I put them in the ground and they did better for me than they would in a pot.
Roses need the right humidity, with out the right humidity the leaves dry up and fall off. That is probably why mine always did better out side than in. Also I had a rose bush out side for many years and it got beautifully leaves and no flowers. I was told that they like blood, and that is what is needed to make them bloom.
So the person told me that I could use the blood from the meat I would cook for dinner. Hamburg, etc... I watered it down and gave it to the rose bush. Results, for the first time it was loaded with roses. So you may want to try it with yours.
Reply:Has your pot got drainage holes in the bottom? Is it getting Sun light? Most likely you are over watering your rose.
