How are you taking care of your Valentine's Day Roses?

On the 14th, I clipped the ends, and put in 1 packet of the flower food, it came with 2. When should I put the second pack in? They still look very pretty, and are blooming. I don't want them to die yet! LOL

Keep cutting the ends with a sharp knife, if you can do it under water, all the better. Keep the water level the same at all times. As when the stems are under water, they swell, maybe not to the naked eye, but they do. When the water level decreases, this 'swelled' area drys up to the point of no longer being able to 'suck' the water up past that point and the heads begin to droop. I have NEVER used the flower food that comes with flowers. For one, its just more chemical going into our water system that is unneccessary. Second, no one has ever proven to me that it actually extends the life of the flowers. Keep the water clean, and the bottoms cut, and you're good. Never fill vase with cold water, room temp is best - sometimes a little warmer works too.

Reply:I knoooow! I wish they would stay pretty forever! You are one of the blessed ones, so many people have already lost theirs. It is according to how the flower shops handle their items that make them last long.
Reply:I always put roses or any other fresh cut flowers in ice water. As long as you keep the water fresh and very cold, they will last a lot longer than if you allow the water to get warm or for the entire vase to get warm. So, every night, I replace the old water with new, cold water with ice.
