Most roses are pruned in the same manner. You should do this while they are dormant. Just before the buds swell. Prune out all dead and diseased branches. Prune these close the base of the plant and at an angle if possible. Prune back to the 5 healthiest canes. I like to prune at about a 45 degree angle for all cuts. Once again take them back fairly close the the base of the plant. Prune these canes back to about 18". Cut about a 1/4 inch above a bud that is facing out from the center of the plant. Make sure you use sterile and sharp pruners. Dip them in bleach water before moving on to another plant.
How do you prune roses and which month is the best time to prune them? Australia?
hi i live in melbourne.
To prune them alwayse cut on and / angle not straight across and cut 1/4 of the way down the branch, enough off but not too much.
it depends on the type of rose it is. most are best pruned in autumn or winter(most roses). mine is a summer to autumn plant so i prune it just as autumn ends.
if you know what type it is then ask your local nursery or look at a roses website
