climbing roses bloom on old wood, so wait until after they bloom.

shrub roses bloom on new wood, but it is best to wait until they begin to bud. then you can easily tell if the canes are dead and you can prune off to an outside bud - which will help to direct the growth to the outside of the bush.

be sure to make your cuts at an angel.

hope this helps. :)
Reply:I don't think it would hurt them, just not too low...and maybe put rose cones on them or some straw or leaves with chicken wire.
Reply:u should wait
Reply:Depends on what part of Florida you're in. When you cut them back, they may put on new growth which would be harmed by a freeze. Here in North Florida, Valentines Day week is earliest to prune roses. There aren't too many really cold days after that so it's safe.
