What is the best household product that I can use to preserve fresh roses?

Per the website below:

Add one part of lemon-lime soda (not diet) to 3 parts of water and to each quart of this solution add 1/4 teaspoon of household bleach. Thereafter add 1/4 teaspoon of bleach after each four days of use.

Here is another similar homemade cut flower preservative: 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of white sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of household bleach (liquid). Add to 1 quart of water.

An agriculture professor in Texas recommends about two ounces of Listerine mouthwash per gallon of vase water to extend the life of cut roses and other cut flowers. Listerine contains, among other things, sucrose (food for flowers) and a bactericide. Its acidity promotes quicker uptake of water by the stems.

Reply:The refrigerator. And change the water every 3 days and trim off 1 inch from the stem (diagonal cut) add 1 teaspoon of sugar to fresh water.
Reply:silica-gel crystals! when the rose is open to the point you want to keep it, put it in silica-gel crystals (available at any craft store and some hobby shops). follow directions on container (basically, pour some crystals in container, add rose, and slowly add crystals to gently cover rose, shaking gently to get the crystals inside the petals, and cover about i/2 to 1" over rose. put lid on container and wait about a week.) pour of crystals and take a small artist paintbrush and very gently brush off crystals and dust. spray with a clear acrylic sealer or paint and you will have your "fresh" rose forever, and it will look very alive and real...its really cool...it will look like you just picked it...forever....
Reply:An aspirin.
