I live in Cincinnati Ohio and our landscaper put in what he calls Knockout Rose bushes. They have been in for one year now and I'm not sure what kind of care and feeding we should be giving them.
Can someone tell me what time of year to trim Knockout Roses and how to do it?
Late fall, cut them back 1/3
Reply:also keep in mind that shrub roses don't need the agressive kind of pruning as say a hybrid tea requires. trimming is only necessary to remove dead wood, and maintain the size and shape you desire of your rose bush. part of what makes them so great.
Reply:yes, it can vary in different parts of the country but in my region of the south east you can prune knockout roses in january or feburary and they will flush out and grow in the spring. its a good idea to remember that cutting back rose to a third is best. hope this helps. feeding roses in the spring is best. i would use a product specially formulated for fertilizing roses like (Rose Tone TM.)
