Roses..What are those little black dots on the leaves of our rose trees & bushes? What do I use to treat them?

Are they ruined now? What can I spray on them? Thanks for any help.

Here's some info on a bacterial rose blight.

Reply:Do you have a compost pile? If not, start one. While the compost is decaying, go buy a few bags of it at your local nursery. Make sure you don't buy mulch. It's not the same thing at all. Mulch is shredded wood and compost is decayed organic matter.

Once you have compost, take an old pillow case and a large bucket of water. Fill the case half full of compost and tie it shut. Fill the bucket with water and toss the pillow case in it like a giant tea bag. What you're making is something called compost tea.

Wring the case out every once in a while and put it back in to keep the water moving through and to introduce air. After around 24-48 hours or so, take the bag out and put the tea into a spray bottle. A pump sprayer works best, but you can use any type of bottle you happen to have as long as there are no chemical residues in it.

Spray the roses liberally. Be sure to spray the undersides and tops of the leaves equally. The tea is full of beneficial bacteria and nutrients for the plants. Take the remaining compost and pile it up around the base of the roses along the drip line. Be sure not to have compost touching the stem. This could kill the plant.

Lastly, take a soaker hose and give them all a good watering. I think you'll find this gives your roses a great natural immunity boost without toxic chemicals and will help to prevent future diseases.
