What is the best way to dry out roses to make potpourri?

Before your fresh roses begin to die (just as they look like they may wilt) remove them from the vase. I wrap several stems together in paper tower to absorb the water from the bottom. Tape the few roses together and then hang upside down by a string in a dark closet or other place where it's dry. Keep checking them and when you're happy with their progress, remove and take petals apart.

Whenever I am given roses I put them in water and enjoy them. When they start to look a little bit sad I take them out and simply gently remove the petals, including any stamens. I put them in a wide and not too deep bowl and keep turning them with my fingers each time I walk past them. This way they maintain their colour and the perfume remains with the petals which slowly dries out. When the perfume eventually goes then I add rose oil or you can use whatever fragrance you like.
Reply:I love potpourri. I don't know if this is the best way, but I usually tied them up by the stems and hang them upside down and air dried them, sometimes I just leave them in the vase, no water in the vase that is. If someone knows of better ways, I'd love to hear it too. :)
