After spraying for aphids on my roses, do the skeleton stay?

I sprayed 2 days ago and it looks like there are still many aphids left. Is it just the remains of the skeleton?

After spraying for aphids on my roses, do the skeleton stay?
One thing about aphids, they adapt quickly to insecticides. I took an entomology class once and the teacher said that aphids are a big problem to contain because of how quickly they adapt. So, how old is the spray that you used? If it is from last year, then it might not be an updated formula.

You might want to try diatomaceous earth. I remember hearing that kills aphids but they cannot adapt to it because it is not a chemical. It works because if you were to look at it on a microscopic level, you would find that it is composed of very sharp edges. These edges cut into the bodies of the aphids and they will die. Here is a quick article I found about it.

My roses are sickly and lame?

They are yellowish, full of holes and sick. My neighbors roses are full of life and colorful.

What can I do that will bring them back and beautiful?

My roses are sickly and lame?
My tips are to never water the rose bushes from the top. Only water at the ground. I use miracle grow for roses about once a month and I spray the leaves on the bush with Ortho Rose Pride to prevent insect infestations and mold and other leaf diseases. Each fall I trim my rose bushes back and mulch around them for the winter. In the spring I prune more off if needed and when warm enough I move the mulch back from around them to keep them from getting too hot.

I hope you have good luck! There is nothing prettier than rose bushes in your yard or landscape.
Reply:Hack them down (I'll send Zack over with his hatchet). and plant new ones.
Reply:you need to prune them back hard after danger of last frost. Spray them with a mix of water and baking soda to get rid of the mildew and mold, then get some rose food or Epsom's salt and sprinkle some around the bottom and water

What would u think if you saw i guy with old school roses tattooed on his leg?

I saw some guy with them and i thought it looked pretty cool and kinda sexy but all my friends say it looks stupid on a guy or its gay. Wat do u guys think?

What would u think if you saw i guy with old school roses tattooed on his leg?
i think he might like roses
Reply:i think it's cool! almost all old school tattoos involved roses. look at the old sailors from the 40's... they all had rose tattoos and those were some tough cookies!
Reply:Never judge a book by tis cover anymore than you should determine a guy is gay because he has a tat of roses on his leg. Too bad you didn't strike up a conversation with him to check him out a little more.
Reply:Gay
Reply:If it artwork was good there is nothing wrong with a guy having a rose tattoo.
Reply:I'll kiss his calf and nibble his feet.
Reply:i would think that there goes a man with a tattoo on his leg.

ever thought there might be a reason behind them? I would still love my husband just as much even if he was covered in tattoos of roses, their bound to mean something.

oh how shallow people can be.
Reply:thats cool...whatever he likes. any tattoo is sexy.
Reply:It depends on how old this guy was and how big the initial design was. I have a male cousin who got and old skool rose done on his upper arm, it was his 1st tatt and i think he just randomly pick something from the book not knowing any better. Personally i think tatts are cool, should have asked him why he got what he did on his leg, it could mean something deep or maybe not!
Reply:to each is their own but i have a great big rose and banner on my neck with my wifes name
Reply:I would think that it is fine I am a guy with flowers tattooed down my rib cage and I am most certianlly not gay
Reply:I probably wouldn't even think anything. There is probably a meaning to the tattoos for him, maybe relates to him mom or something. I wouldn't judge him because of some tattoos.

What's up with all the gay bashing.
Reply:not a big fan of guys getting tats on their legs, but if they do, it needs to be something strong. I mean really strong. I saw a guy in high school that had a shark tat on his leg. I thought it looked ridiculous. Just my opinion
Reply:Cool
Reply:A friend of mine recently had old school roses tattooed on his arm to pay tribute to his grandparents who died recently.

He is most definitely not gay, and I don't know many people who would be brave enough to tell him they thought he was, even if they thought it!

In fact, most of the guys I've seen/known with old school rose tattoos are not small blokes, and usually have a reason behind getting something like that done.

I think your friends should learn to be more open minded and should think before they judge people for how they look.
Reply:Gay
Reply:Nothing wrong with roses on a guy. I'm one and I have 2 butterfly's tattooed on me. My wife likes them and they have a symbolic meaning behind them.
Reply:Nothing wrong with that. This whole idea of men needing masculine tattoos and women needing feminine ones is ridiculous. Art is art. It's a personal expression.
Reply:Spose tattoos all abot individuality n bot him being his own person...with his own preference
Reply:alot of men have tattoos of roses!!! it certainly isnt gay!!

Reply:Why would he put on his body a permanent mark that he wouldn't hang on the wall?

When he gets older he'll feel like a berk, and probably have to pay lots of money for painful laser treatment to get rid of them.

UGH.

How do you prune roses?

I'm new to gardening... can anyone tell me in simple terms how to prune a rose?

How do you prune roses?
When cutting roses, you have to cut them at an angle, never straight across. Also it is best to cut just below the first set of five leaves....If you cut above that the flower will not come back. Good luck!! Hope this helped. I had a rose bush grow to be 6' tall that way, and full of roses!!!
Reply:My Late Dad was a keen grower of roses and he always gave a small prune at th eback end of the year just tidy them.

And in Springtime pruned right back just untill the first sign of new growth .

He had perfect roses all year, good luck but you have splendid answers here that will help you along.
Reply:My garden is full of roses, but I dont pune any of them...I only prune rose bushes.
Reply:Some good answers here, and I also do hard cuttings, soft cuttings etc...Beyond the answers here I would like to add something...Wherever you cut the roses, on the stem left apply a drop of regular elmers glue to seal off the open area and decrease the chance of getting a fungis in them...It also prevents "borers"(insects that eat from inside the stalk) from entering the cut areas..read under "rose stem borers" on the link below

Reply:end of September I prune mine cut all down short at an angle don't be afraid they will bloom again next year and each year you will have more flowers, you cant go wrong roses are hardy, and each year you will enjoy them
Reply:I'm assuming that you have a hybrid tea or ordinary shrub rose as climbers require slightly different treatment.

When pruning any shrub remember to first remove the three D's.

Dead, diseased and damaged.

The plant needs to have an open centre with no crossing branches, aim to create a goblet shape.

Remove stems that are crossed or touching each other as they will rub together in the wind and damage each other - you don't have to take out both just one will do.

Cut stems just above a leaf node with an outward facing bud, if you cut too far above the node the stem will start to die back a little and this gives the opportunity for disease to get in.

Don't fret too much it would be difficult to kill the rose unless you cut it all to the ground.

Enjoy your gardening.

Reply:Prune the 'spent' rose buds off by following down the stem. When you see five leaves cut above those five leaves. Do a slant cut to the stem cutting off the dead rose buds.

In late Fall, I cut the branches down to ground level. They come back in late Spring healthier than ever.

I also spread my banana peels (cut up) around the base of the plant. It has really made a difference in how much they grow.
Reply:In late Autumn, cut off all the smaller shots back to the main stem and leave the bush well balanced. It will shoot again the following spring.
Reply:cut them!!!!
Reply:Just cut off some of the stems and rose heads it makes it grow more!!!Have fun with your garden
Reply:Never make a straight cut, always cut on an angle and below the bud.
Reply:i prune them back to the green wood in spring but I have david austin english roses a type of shrub rose NE Missouri
Reply:Cut back to the lowest outward facing bud. Make your cut at an angle. Get rid of suckers below ground level (they usually have seven leaves as oppose to five.)

When and how is the best time to try and start roses and how are they best started in Tucson?

I think early spring like right now.

Hi Lois! I'm near ft lowell! and stone avenue area! -Tucson.

I have a friends who's finance brought her a dozen roses for Valentine's Day and their already wilted.

What should she do? Should she call the flower shop to report this? She doesn't want to hurt his feelings by returning them. I told her they would probably replace them, but is there special care to keep them fresh longer?

I have a friends who's finance brought her a dozen roses for Valentine's Day and their already wilted.
Make sure that all the foliage has been stripped from the stem so that no leaves are actually in the water. Cut a bit off the stem at an angle then either crush the bottom bit of the stem or snip into it about quarter or an inch. Then place in very hot water for about 2 minutes. Then place in ordinary water with rose feed and that should do the trick. If all fails contact the florist and complain. Good Luck
Reply:put a asprin or sugar or lemonade in the water should bring them back to life if not then report to the shop
Reply:if the blooms are droopy- lay them in a tub of water - like your bathtub. this will revive the part of the stem just below the blossom. and cutting the stems under water will help, too.
Reply:Make sure you use flower food and cut an inch off the bottom of them. Thats what my florist told me to tell my girlfriend.

:)
Reply:There are a couple things that may have happened to roses....cold weather may have killed them or maybe the roses went without water too long.

If her fiance delivered her the roses himself ...he may be to blame....but I would still call flower shop and let them know that the roses died immediately. They may replace them.

If she gets new roses....keep them wrapped up good to protect them from cold. Take them out of wrapper and use sharp knife and cut about an inch off bottom of stem. Cut at an angle. Put in water/floral mix right away. The greenhouse should have provided a packet of fresh flower soluable mix for water. If not ...add a little 7up (soda) to water. Change water every other day. I always recut my roses at that time. They should last a week or more.

How many kinds of roses are available on the earth?

black, pink, red, white, i know but i heard that there are more?

How many kinds of roses are available on the earth?
There will never be an accurate count of the varieties of roses available----they number in the thousands and many of the old or antique roses are difficult to locate---roses belong to the apple family known as Malus. However, if you are interested in viewing a large number you can check with Jackson %26amp; Perkins, Star Roses, or American Roses. Good Luck!
Reply:Read the article from the first link below to get a list of different breeds of roses in addition of different colors. There are many.

On colors though, you forgot to mention yellow as in "The Yellow Rose of Texas" . See the second link.
Reply:Roses can be classified in several categories:
